COLUMBUS–As President Donald Trump takes significant action in Washington, D.C., to rid the federal government of discriminatory and deceitfully titled “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion” policies–also known as DEI, leaders at the Ohio General Assembly have introduced legislation to ban DEI at Ohio’s colleges and universities.

Senate Bill 1 (SB1), sponsored by Senator Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland), bans DEI courses, training, litmus tests, required statements, and spending on DEI initiatives or programs with the same intent.

“We want every student in Ohio, regardless of race, gender, or religion, to be able to pursue
their choice of post-secondary education,” said Senator Cirino. “However, DEI programs are
inherently discriminatory and cannot be tolerated or paid for by taxpayers.”

Along with banning DEI programs, the bill bans political and ideological litmus tests in all hiring, promotion, and admissions decisions. “DEI is dehumanizing. It minimizes Ohio’s classrooms to nothing more than quotas,” said Aaron Baer, President of Center for Christian Virtue. “Senator Cirino’s SB1 will encourage a culture of excellence in Ohio’s universities, not a culture of victimhood.”

The text of the bill will soon be available at OhioSenate.gov.
